The "Book Den"

Inside the new Book Den Inside the new Book Den

Burgess Hill District Lions depends on many different activities to fund its welfare projects. One major fund-raising on-going activity is the "Book Den" - our second-hand book shop that is located in Burgess Hill town centre at 86-88 Church Walk, Burgess Hill, RH15 9AS.

The Book Den is open Monday to Saturday: 9.30am to 4.00pm. Please note we are closed on Bank Holidays.

Please come along and browse. There is no sales pressure - just take your time and you're bound to find something you want!

All items in our Shop are donated. so we will be pleased to accept your donation of good quality books, maps, jigsaws, CDs, DVDs and vinyl records. We will sort them and recycle any unwanted ones.

Deliveries can be made at the rear of our premises off Crescent Way, almost opposite Cyprus Road car park. Look for the "Book Den" sign at the back of the shop.

Donation times are Monday to Saturday: 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Please do not leave donations if the shop is closed.

Sometimes we are offered more donations than we can safely process so we may have to occasionally put up our "no more donations" notices. Please bear with us if this happens. It helps if individual donations are restricted to about 50 books.

We prefer payment for purchases over £2 to be made by card and, if possible "contactless".  We accept Visa, Mastercard and Maestro cards only (Debit or Credit).  We do still accept cash.

The previous Book Den featured in an article in Sussex Living for Mid Sussex, who have kindly given their permission for it to be reproduced here. The new Book Den is even better!

For further information, you can telephone the shop on 01444 233278 or email the Bookshop Manager on bookshop@bhdlions.org.uk.

We have a community working partnership with a big local garden centre called South Downs Nurseries and have worked with them all the year round for the last ten years.

One day when we were talking with the management of the nurseries we hit on the idea of their selling novels for us in their café at a £1 a book. In the first three months this earned us nearly £1000. This is the official launch photo where the Chairman of our District Council declared it open.

Lion President John Gee with the Chairman of the District Council and Manager of the Garden Centre at the official launch of the bookshop in their cafe.

Please have a coffee and browse through the books next time you go to the South Downs Garden Centre!

Please bring any donations to the rear of our Burgess Hill shop.
