Lions Eye Health Programme

The white stick which is associated with the Blind was originally thought up by the Lions.  Since then it has, of course, been developed into a sophisticated tool for allowing the blind to find their way around. We still support the blind and St Dunstans is a local facility that is very well known.

Eye Health is a major area that the Lions target as Glaucoma is becoming a major  problem these days. Sightsavers is an international organisation that helps people in poor countries but it is also trying to bring awareness to the developed world of the problems of glaucoma.

October 8th-15th 2011 was Sight Awareness Week.  As part of this, Burgess Hill District Lions held a Guided Walk to demonstrate to sighted users what being blind was like.  They were joined by the Mayor of Burgess Hill.
